About this tool

Optimize File Size by Converting Heavy PNGs to Lightweight JPGs

PNG files are lossless and support transparency, but they can be significantly larger in file size than JPGs, slowing down website page load speeds, blowing past email attachment limits, and consuming unnecessary storage space.

Because JPG does not natively support transparent pixels, transparent areas in a PNG can turn black or corrupt if not handled properly. Toolnova lets you choose your desired background fill color (white, black, or custom hex) before exporting.

Adjust the JPG quality slider to find the perfect balance between crisp visual clarity and compact file size. All processing happens 100% in your browser without uploading your pictures to any external server.

Key features & capabilities

Custom JPG compression quality slider from 60% to 100%

Frequently asked questions about PNG to JPG Converter

Common questions about usage, privacy, limits, and browser compatibility.

What happens to transparent areas when I convert PNG to JPG?

JPG has no alpha channel, so any transparent pixel has to be filled with a solid color before encoding. This tool lets you pick that fill color, and white is selected by default. Without a fill step, transparent regions in other converters often turn black or pick up odd fringes.

How do I make a PNG background white?

Upload your transparent PNG, then choose the white swatch or type #FFFFFF into the background color field. The preview updates before you commit, and the exported JPG gets a clean, uniform white background. If you need to keep the transparency instead, export to PNG rather than JPG.

How much smaller will the JPG file be?

For photographic PNGs the reduction often falls in the 60% to 85% range, depending on the quality setting you choose. Images with large flat areas, such as screenshots or logos, compress differently and may not shrink as dramatically. Check the preview at your chosen quality before downloading a whole batch.

Which JPG quality setting should I choose?

Around 85% is a sensible default, because the difference is usually hard to see while the file gets much smaller. Use 100% for text, line art, or anything with hard edges where artifacts appear quickly, and drop toward 60% for thumbnails and quick previews. The slider covers the full 60% to 100% range.

Can I batch convert multiple PNG files?

You can select several PNG images at once and apply the same quality and background color settings to all of them. Results can be saved one by one, or bundled into a single ZIP download. Because everything is processed locally, batch size is limited mainly by your device's memory.

Are my images uploaded when converting PNG to JPG?

Nothing is uploaded at any point, since the decoding and JPG encoding both happen inside your browser tab. Your pictures are not sent to a server, stored in a database, or queued for review. The only copy that leaves the tool is the file you download yourself.
