About Toolalcove
A free set of everyday tools that open in a browser tab. No account, no install, and no file upload for the file tools.
What Toolalcove is
Toolalcove is a collection of 50 free tools for working with PDFs, images, text, numbers, and code. Each tool has its own page with a short guide, a list of related tools, and answers to common questions. The tools are built for quick jobs: merging a few PDFs before an email, shrinking a photo for a form, checking a word count, or formatting JSON that will not parse.
There is no dashboard to learn and no account to create. Open a tool, use it, and close the tab. Most tools keep working if your connection drops after the page has loaded, because the processing code is already in the browser.
Who it is for
The tools are for people who need a small result without installing desktop software: students preparing assignments, office workers fixing a document before a deadline, small business owners preparing an invoice, developers testing an API payload, and anyone who needs a calculator or a quick image edit on a phone. The layout is designed to work on a small screen first, because many visits happen on mobile.
Why the tools run in the browser
For file tools, the file is read from your device into the browser's memory and processed there with JavaScript, HTML5 Canvas, WebAssembly, and Web Workers. The file is not sent to a storage bucket, a queue, or a database. That design has two practical benefits: there is no upload wait, and there is no server-side copy of your document to clean up afterward. It also means the practical limit is your device's memory, not a fixed server quota.
What is and is not sent over the network
- File tools (PDF, image, OCR, text-to-PDF): your file is processed in the browser and is not uploaded.
- AI Grammar Checker: when the AI service is available, the text you submit is sent to our server and to an AI provider for processing. If the service is unavailable, a built-in rules engine runs in your browser instead. The tool page states this before you run a check.
- Internet Speed Test: the test deliberately sends and receives real data over the network to measure throughput. It is the only tool whose purpose is network transfer.
- Contact page: the form prepares a message in your own email app. Nothing is submitted to a Toolalcove server by the form.
- Page requests: like any website, loading a page sends a request to the host, Cloudflare, which processes standard technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the page.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account to use a tool.
- We don't add watermarks to your output.
- We don't keep a library of the files you process.
- We don't publish invented reviews, ratings, or user counts.
- We don't use advertising or analytics scripts at the time of writing.
Limits worth knowing
Browser processing is fast, but it is still limited by the device in front of you. A very large scanned PDF can run out of memory on an older phone. The Background Remover downloads a model the first time you use it, which can take a while on a slow connection; later runs use the cached copy. The AI Grammar Checker depends on a remote service and has a 3,000-character limit per request. Calculators are provided for everyday planning and should not replace professional financial, tax, or medical advice.
